Our program is inspired by the Waldorf values of Movement, Repetition, Imitation and Rhythm, which strive to provide a gentle transition for children (walkers through 5 years old), from the home to a group environment. Wise Hearts provides a nature-centered program that utilizes mindfulness and a whole child approach to learning through age appropriate activities.
New research indicates that children who regularly play in nature are growing up healthier, smarter, and happier. Therefore, our curriculum is based in an outdoor focused approach. We are laying the foundation to develop a love of nature, an affinity for just being in a natural world and developing an observation/curiosity that will serve them throughout their lives.
Play is crucial at Wise Hearts. Child-initiated play lays the foundation for learning and academic success. Through play, children learn to interact with others, develop language skills, recognize and solve problems, and discover their human potential. Play helps children make sense of and find their place in the world (Alliance for Childhood).
Our days at Wise Hearts are designed to create a balance between free, creative play and more structured activities. Children are taught through their interests about the world they live in. Our curious and wise children will guide the teacher.
Each season brings new layers to the daily life of our community. Children will explore the world with their 5 senses and learn through them.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is essential since it provides children with a mind frame and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Wise Hearts will provide children with emotional coping skills that will accompany them for the rest of their lives. Emotional learning encompasses a wide variety of topics such as: building empathy, learning pro-social behaviors and friendship skills, emotional self regulation, self concept, building self esteem, problem solving, self control, identifying, managing and expressing emotions in an appropriate way, building optimism and hope, leadership, resilience, teamwork, cooperation, and the development of mindfulness. Wise Hearts will help children organize their emotional world by helping them to identify, express, and respond appropriately to their feelings. Once a child can recognize their own feelings they can begin to understand and respond appropriately to the feelings of others.
Empathy, the ability to put themselves in someone else’s shoes has proven to be a necessary skill for personal, relationships, and career success in the future, since it will help our children understand the perspectives, needs, and intentions of others.
At Wise Hearts, children sing, role-play, use puppets, learn to breath to relax, do art and crafts and many other activities to teach the children emotional literacy and awareness.
We build the foundation blocks for a successful future education in reading, math and science while nurturing the artistic, emotional and social development of the child. The Wise Hearts’ curriculum involves music, emotional intelligence, movement and much more.
